I was born just outside of Portland, Oregon to a Mexican American dad and a Danish American mom. Not long after, my family moved to Spain, in a town called Sant Cugat del Valles, just outside of Barcelona. I lived there for the first couple years of my life, and it was there that I learned to speak Spanish and got to experience many different cultures. My Spanish preschool teacher was always frustrated with me because I often chose to sit under the table and sing instead of participating in class activities - not the norm for the well behaved children of Barcelona.
Before I knew it, my family moved back to the Pacific Northwest when I was four years old. I began dancing ballet, wanting to follow in the footsteps of my two older sisters. One Christmas, my mom took me to see the national tour of The Lion King, and I was completely blown away. As soon as the show ended, I knew that I wanted to do musical theatre for the rest of my life. I fell in love with the influential work of choreographers such as Jerome Robbins, Bob Fosse, and George Balanchine.
Since then, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with my Bachelor of Music in Music Theater at Oklahoma City University, and made my national tour debut in The Cher Show national tour in the ensemble and understudying Babe. I’ve had the opportunity to perform in a wide range of productions, such as Pippin, Spamalot, Bright Star, and Flashdance the Musical. I’ve also been able to step into a few creative roles as choreographer for Cabaret and Offenbach’s opera Orpheus in the Underworld, which includes the iconic Can-Can.
In my spare time, I am a huge classic film buff (my favorites include The Court Jester, Funny Face, and To Catch a Thief), an avid baguette eater, and a lover of couture fashion (the Met Gala is pretty much my favorite day of the year). I also have a calico cat, Marianne, named after the character from Sense & Sensibility. My family calls her an “opera cat”, because of her musical yowl.
